Our Journey
The Journey Begins
South Coast Rx Physiotherapy was founded by Cameron Brew and Daniel Rebolledo, two close friends who first met while working in the local MSK Physiotherapy department in Portsmouth. Brought together by a shared passion for sport, exercise, and active rehabilitation, they quickly bonded over their commitment to helping people stay active and recover well.
However, both felt the growing frustration of being unable to offer the level of care they knew their patients deserved within the constraints of the NHS. Motivated by a desire to make a real difference and inspired by one another, they set out to build something better.
South Coast Rx Physiotherapy was born from that vision — a practice with a mission to keep active people doing what they love, and a commitment to raising the standard of physiotherapy provision in the local community.
Our First Clinic
South Coast Rx wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of Ray Pahroah, who gave Cameron and Daniel their first opportunity by allowing them to open a clinic in the changing room of the CrossFit gym they both attended.
One afternoon, the two set about painting and decorating their new space — a proud moment in their journey, even if neither was particularly handy. The shelves, for example, had a habit of falling down for several months afterwards!
The room was tiny, and each appointment required folding away the table and chairs just to make space for the treatment plinth. And being inside a CrossFit gym, the clinic came with its own unexpected quirks — including a giant mural of a shirtless Spartan warrior riding a horse, which definitely caught a few clients off guard!
Covid
Just before the pandemic hit, Dan set off on a year-long adventure travelling abroad with his wife, Lily. What was meant to be a 12-month trip quickly turned into a two-year journey, as the world came to a standstill during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Back in the UK, Cam continued working within the NHS, where he was redeployed to the front line to support hospital discharges during the height of the crisis. Despite being on opposite sides of the world, and in the middle of a global pandemic, their drive and commitment to South Coast Rx never wavered.
More Covid
Each week, without fail, they met for virtual business meetings — no matter the time difference. For one of them, it was always the middle of the night. These late-night calls became the foundation for the business they were building — a chance to shape their vision, values, and long-term goals. That groundwork still underpins everything South Coast Rx stands for today.
As restrictions began to ease, Cam was finally able to see patients again — albeit in full PPE. Often referred to as “the butcher” by amused CrossFit members, he could be spotted treating clients while fully kitted out in a mask, gown, and gloves — a vivid image of the times and the determination that carried the business through them.
New opportunities
As South Coast Rx’s reputation for raising the bar in physiotherapy grew, so did the demand for a space that reflected the quality and professionalism of the service. Cam quickly realised it was time for a clinic update — one that matched their evolving vision.
Just four weeks after undergoing ACL surgery, he took matters into his own hands (quite literally) and set about expanding the clinic by knocking through into the neighbouring changing room. The process involved painstakingly chipping away layers of old paint from a solid brick wall — an effort that required hours of standing, twisting, and bending on his freshly operated knee.
New opportunities
True to form, Cam wasn’t the best at following his own rehab advice — but the result was a transformed clinic space that better represented the high standards and modern aesthetic of South Coast Rx.
As restrictions began to ease, a new opportunity emerged — the chance to rent a 1:1 rehabilitation space at a local gym. This marked a key turning point in the growth of South Coast Rx Physiotherapy. For the first time, Cam and Dan were able to realise their vision of delivering the kind of high-level rehabilitation typically reserved for elite athletes to everyone, regardless of background or ability.
New opportunities
With this expansion, South Coast Rx officially became a two-clinic service — just in time for Dan’s return from the trip of a lifetime. The best friends were finally reunited, and with their combined energy, motivation, and unwavering belief in what they were building, they pushed the business forward at an unstoppable pace.
The Grind
When Dan returned home, he made the boldest decision of his career — choosing not to return to the NHS and instead go all-in with South Coast Rx Physiotherapy. It was a leap of faith, and a huge personal risk. At the same time, Cam had just welcomed a baby with his wife, Natalie, and couldn’t afford to take the same financial gamble.
With shared goals but different circumstances, they took two separate paths toward their collective vision. Dan, with barely enough money for a coffee, poured everything he had — time, energy, and belief — into growing the business full time. Meanwhile, Cam was working every hour possible, balancing a demanding NHS job by day and running the SCRx clinic by night and on weekends.
It was a relentless period, but one that laid the foundation for the future — driven by their shared commitment to providing world-class rehabilitation and redefining physiotherapy in their community.
The Grind
As the reputation of South Coast Rx continued to grow, so too did the demand on the service. It became clear that Cam and Dan could no longer do it alone.
This marked the beginning of a new chapter — welcoming new team members into the SCRx family. With every addition, they focused on building a culture grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a passion for raising the bar in physiotherapy.
What began as a dream between two best friends was now becoming something bigger — a collective vision, driven by a team of like-minded individuals, all committed to helping people stay active, move better, and do more of what they love.
The Turning Point
The real turning point came when a clinic space became available at the brand-new Ravelin Sports Centre at the University of Portsmouth. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — and Dan and Cam knew it.
Armed with all their equipment, they headed into the most important meeting of their careers. They were pitching a complete physiotherapy solution: a service for the University’s Sports Scholars, a commercial clinic for staff and students, and pitchside support for BUCS sport.
Both were nervous — this was the biggest pitch of their lives — but their passion, preparation, and belief in their vision shone through. They nailed it. South Coast Rx was awarded the contract, securing a place within one of the UK’s most advanced sports facilities and opening the next chapter in their journey.
It was a defining moment — one that would shape the future of South Coast Rx and everything it stood for
Raising The Bar
Since then, South Coast Rx has continued to grow from strength to strength. Our reputation for raising the bar in physiotherapy has seen us become the leading provider in Portsmouth, trusted by a wide range of clients — from weekend warriors to elite athletes.
We’ve established close working partnerships with some of the most respected local and national sporting organisations, including Portsmouth FC, the Royal Navy, PGMOL, P3FORM, and many more. We’re also proud to hold the highest Google rating for physiotherapy services in Portsmouth — a reflection of the trust and results we’ve built within our community.
While much has changed since the early days in the CrossFit changing room, our mission remains the same: to keep active people doing what they love, and to redefine what physiotherapy can look like at every level.
The Next Chapter
Most recently, Cam and Dan secured an exciting new contract to open a South Coast Rx Physiotherapy clinic in Fareham — marking the start of the next chapter in their journey. It’s a new opportunity to expand their reach and help even more people across the South Coast stay active and achieve their goals.
Despite how much the business has grown, they often reflect on those early days — the sacrifices, the graft, and the relentless drive it took to turn South Coast Rx into their full-time careers. That same passion, motivation, and energy still fuel the team today, and continue to shape the direction of everything they do.
The Next Chapter
Of course, some things haven’t changed. Cam is still exceptionally good at spending money, much to the frustration of Dan, who now finds himself in the role of Financial Director. He’s also still terrible at following his own physiotherapy advice and tends to operate best in a state of organised chaos.
Dan, on the other hand, remains calm, rational, and level-headed — the wise voice of reason in the partnership. And that’s exactly why it works. They are equal and opposite. Yin and yang.
South Coast Rx Physiotherapy is no longer just the vision of two best mates — it’s now a collective of individuals, united by a strong culture and a shared set of values. And together, anything is possible.
