Acupuncture
At South Coast Rx, acupuncture is offered as a supportive treatment option to help manage pain, reduce muscle tension, and promote recovery — either as a standalone intervention or alongside active rehabilitation.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points in the body. These points are selected based on a combination of modern anatomical understanding and traditional Chinese medicine principles. At South Coast Rx, we focus on evidence-informed, musculoskeletal acupuncture, aimed at supporting the body’s natural healing processes.
Is Acupuncture right for you?
Our clinicians will always assess whether acupuncture is appropriate for your condition based on your history, clinical presentation, and treatment goals.
If you’re unsure whether acupuncture might be right for you, we’re happy to discuss its role during your assessment or treatment session.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
When used appropriately, acupuncture can:
- Help modulate pain signals
- Improve local blood flow and tissue healing
- Reduce muscle tone and spasm
- Stimulate the nervous system to assist with recovery and relaxation
It can be particularly useful in cases of persistent or stubborn musculoskeletal pain, where other techniques might need additional support.
When Is Acupuncture Appropriate?
- Chronic or persistent muscle and joint pain
- Tension headaches or neck-related discomfort
- Overactive or tight muscle groups
- Recovery from training or postural strain
- As part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes rehab and manual therapy
